Hello Munro Families!

It has been a month since school started and we are so thankful that you have supported our safety efforts. It has made a real difference. Our students have been incredibly positive and flexible despite our different learning environment this year. We are so pleased to see so many students using their bikes or walking to and from school. The OCDSB requires that students in grades 4 through 12 wear a mask at school when indoors, in hallways, during class and on school transportation... and our students have followed through. We are very proud of them!

Student Drop-off

There has been a slight change to our process regarding student drop-off in the morning. After the school buses and specialized transportation have left our property in the morning, we will open our parent drop-off loop so that students can be dropped off in the parent drop off area. The buses will normally depart between 7:50 and 7:55. Just follow the loop, and at the stop sign (by the big tree) you can drop off. As we are still working to limit congestion on Kender, we encourage our students to be dropped off away from the school and walk the last little bit.

Water bottles and other items

Just a reminder that we are trying to limit the movement in the school. Any item forgotten at home and brought to school will be delivered to the student by a staff member. As well, there are two refill water stations available, but there is no water ‘fountain’ for school use. Please remember to pack a refillable water bottle in your child's backpack.

Dress for the weather

Science has proven that the COLD does not cause us to be sick. In terms of infectious illnesses, germs make us sick, not cold weather itself. Please ensure that your children are wearing appropriate layers for the weather. We are doing some amazing outdoor learning and really want our students to be comfortable. Extra footwear is welcome in your child’s backpack.

Google Classroom

We hope by now  our students have shown you their Google classroom. If for any reason our school needs to ‘go online’ for a period of time or your child needs to isolate, they will need to be able to check-in and learn. Please reach out NOW to your classroom teacher if your family does not understand how to access Google Classroom.  Teachers have been posting some tasks, activities and weekly goals. If we ever pivot to remote learning, our Google Classrooms will turn from summative posts and single activities, into learning hubs where students wil their learning. Let’s be prepared!

School Council

Our first Henry Munro School Council meeting will be held Monday, October 19th, 2020 at 7:00pm. A Google Meet invitation has been sent out. If you would like to be added to the meeting, please send an email to:

Munro Meet the Staff

Munro hosted a virtual Open House/Meet the Staff on Thursday October 15th. Staff were very happy to connect with families and review procedures and expectations for the school year. A Family Handbook can be viewed on our website or click here.

Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) - The PIC is an advisory committee to the School Board, similar to a school council, but at the Board level. The Ministry of Education describes the role of the PIC as follows:

PICs are an important advisory body that operate as a direct link between parents and a board's director of education and its trustees. Where school councils focus on the local school and community, Parent Involvement Committees (PICs) participate at the board level and focus on things that affect more than one school.

If you are interested in getting involved, please fill out an online application form to apply. Submissions are due no later than 4:00 pm on Friday 30 October 2020.
