August 28th Update

August 28th Update

Dear Henry Munro families,

I wanted to reach out to everyone with a quick update of information specific to Henry Munro. I expect many families feel bombarded with information right now, as we are frequently updating things to reflect the changing realities of returning to In-Person or Remote learning this year.

Rest assured, that although we have an incredible amount of work still to do in the very short time frame, when we are finally ready to open the doors/online classrooms we will be ready for your students. We look forward to getting things rolling soon!

Back to School: Key Information for Parents and Students:

·         School will resume after September 8th. The OCDSB will announce specific dates for each school/grade next week.

·         Each student must complete a COVID-19 screening daily before coming to school.

·         Masks must be worn by students at all times while on school property and on school busses.

·         Students will be required to wash or sanitize hands on entry/exit. Sanitizer stations will be at each entry point. Classrooms without sinks will also have hand-sanitizer.

·         Due to significant reorganization required by online learning, class placement information will not be available until the first day of school. Where possible, siblings and relatives will be placed together in classes to reduce contacts.

·         Families that have opted for REMOTE learning this term will be contacted after September 8th by their online teacher with directions about how online remote learning will proceed.

·         In-person students will remain with their class cohort at all times. All subjects will be taught in the same room, and students will have designated area for their class when outside. Students will not be able to “mingle” with other classes at recess.

·         Students will not have access to lockers during the Fall term. Personal belongings brought to school must be contained in a backpack and kept on the back of their chair. We ask that students bring only essential items to school.

·         Water fountains have been disabled. 2 water bottle refill stations are available, and each student must bring a refillable bottle labelled with their name.

·         Students will be frequently outside for learning and Phys. Ed in order to maximize fresh air, social distancing, etc. Appropriate clothing for the weather is essential. Sunscreen or protective clothing is encouraged.

·         Students with medical conditions or medication needs must submit annual forms related to medical needs: https://henrymunroms.ocdsb.ca/parent_resources/schoolforms

·         To maximize social distancing, access to school property is limited to staff/students ONLY. Parents with enquiries must call or email. (henrymunroms@ocdsb.ca)

·         We anticipate higher than usual numbers of vehicles dropping off/picking up students. The school driveway loop is NOT open to parents/guardians as it must be clear for school buses. Please consider pickup/drop off at Eastvale Park or neighboring streets (respecting traffic rules and neighboring homes). To minimize student cross-mingling we strongly recommend only arriving as close as possible to the start of day. Even in inclement weather, students will not be able to enter the school before 8:10.

·         Our daily schedule has been adjusted slightly to allow for staggered arrivals:

8:00 – 8:10

Supervised arrival. Students to line up in their designated class area. Staff will be on hand to direct students. Period 1 teachers will meet the class at 8:10 and bring them inside.

8:10 – 10:10

Period 1 Block. Students remain in their home classroom. Teachers will rotate to classes to provide instruction in specific subjects.

10:10 – 10:50

Staggered Recess/Nutrition Break. Students eat in their classroom and then 20 min recess outside with their class in a designated area. (50% of classes will do reverse – recess, then nutrition break)

10:50 – 12:50

Period 2 Block. Students remain in their home classroom. Teachers will rotate to classes to provide instruction in specific subjects.

12:50 – 1:30

Staggered Recess/Nutrition Break. Students eat in their classroom and then 20 min break outside with their class in a designated area. (50% of classes will do reverse – recess, then nutrition break)

1:30 – 2:30

Period 3 Block. Students remain in their home classroom. Teachers will rotate to classes to provide instruction in specific subjects.

2:30

Dismissal.

We will continue to update families as we approach our scheduled start dates with specific information about what to expect in the first few days at school. Thank you in advance for your patience as we work to ensure a safe and orderly return to school.
