Leadership Recognition
“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”
Students
As representatives of the student population, our Student Body provides input for our school-wide events such as the HMMS Penny War, Hoops for Heart and other activities in support ofcommunity organizations such as the Gloucester Food Cupboard. The generosity of our students provided over thousands of dollars in charitable contributions back into the community. Our Student Council and Pay it Forward team promote school- wide character development and nurture the values associated with community building. Our students also demonstrated leadership inVarsity Sports, Public Speaking and Science Fair at the Regional, Board and National levels. Our students also took part in a Terry Fox fundraising event to benefit cancer research. Henry Munrostudents participated in a Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer awareness campaign to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Students also have been active in raising money to support non-governmental organizations providing disaster relief in countries such as Haiti. In addition to informal recognition on a regular basis, we also acknowledge their contributions in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, assemblies, our principal’s report to School Council, and end-of-year awards ceremonies.
Staff
Collectively, our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Masters in Education degrees as well as Bachelor’s degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Physical Education and Sciences. As a staff, we also have additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, French as a Second Language, Design & Technology, Music, Visual Arts, Guidance, Reading, and Computers in Education. Our staff has actively participated in numerous Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy, and we recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. We recognize staff leadership via personal interactions with one another, performance appraisals, and our principal’s report to School Council.
Parents/Guardians/Volunteers
Our volunteers are a tremendous support for the students in our school. They often volunteer to assist us with field trips. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and has contributed funds to support resource acquisitions and enrichment activities. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an on-going basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them such as school announcements, our principal’s report to School Council, our school website and newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event. As well, donations by inpiduals have aided in equipping our Literacy Room at Henry Munro Middle School.
Community
We recognize our community partners through our school announcements, Twitter feed, YouTube channel, our school web site, principal’s report to School Council, and thank you cards. We alsoinvite them to events, awards ceremonies, and the grade 8 leaving ceremony. Our breakfast program which is staffed by a paid monitor, provides students in need with a nutritious meal between7:45 and 8:00 am to help set up the students for a successful day of learning. We will continue to look for community partners to help us further build the program.
