Cycling routes to access Henry Munro Middle School
Cycling routes to access Henry Munro Middle School

The City of Ottawa’s Cycling Safety Awareness Program (CSAP) is reaching out to schools near where the City has received complaints of youth riding on the sidewalk to provide alternative options for students to bike to school safely and legally!

Ogilvie Road is a main approach for students South of Montreal Road to approach Henry Munro MS, but the lack of cycling infrastructure on Ogilvie Road North of Montreal may encourage students to ride on the sidewalks instead. However, riding on the sidewalk is illegal throughout the City of Ottawa unless otherwise sign-posted, and students may incur a fine. Riding on the sidewalk can also put pedestrians at risk, especially if cyclists ride at high speeds without giving priority.

Please see the map above which highlights alternative route options to bring students coming from South of Montreal Road to your school, using quieter residential streets, cycling infrastructure, and signalized crossings, which will be more comfortable than riding on Ogilvie Road itself. Note that the route in red is not yet open, as it is part of the construction of the LRT Eastern extension.
